Opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continue to build pressure on the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for its alleged role in rigging in the local government elections held in the province recently.

In response, PTI chief Imran Khan has renewed his offer of re-election, if opposition parties desire so. Talking to journalists outside the Supreme Court on Monday.

Imran Rejects Demand for KP Chief Minister’s Resignation

Imran Khan defended his party’s government in KP against the opposition parties that were demanding resignation of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. The Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl have said that free and fair elections are not possible unless the PTI’s chief minister resigns.  During the media talk, Imran Khan said: “Holding free and fair elections is the ECP’s responsibility, but the PTI as ruling party is willing to discuss their concerns to the extent the provincial government can.

I am surprised they are demanding resignation of the provincial government. Why should CM Khattak resign?” Criticising the JUI-F and ANP, Imran Khan said that refusal by the two parties to attend an all-party conference convened by the chief minister on Tuesday showed their `double-standards’.
