KARACHI: The Sindh government has recommended names of 27 lawyers to fill the vacant posts of judges in the Sindh High Court.
Currently, there are only 12 judges working in the Sindh High Court against the strength of 40 posts.Sources said that the Sindh government sent a list comprising names of 27 lawyers to SHC Chief Justice Musheer Alam, Senior Puisne Judge Justice Maqbool Baqir and Federal Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio for their necessary investigation and verification before making a decision on merit.Before sending the list, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro held consultations on the matter with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the sources added.Mr Soomro, who is one of the members of the Judicial Commission, had taken up the matter of shortage of judges in the SHC with Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during a meeting held in the second half of the last month in Islamabad. The CJP asked him to submit suitable names to the SHC chief justice.
The names of the 27 lawyers are: Liaquat Ali Shar, Ahmad Ali Shahani and Shafi Muhammad Chandio from Khairpur; Gulab Rai Jessrani, Mushtaq Korejo, Inayatullah Morio, Muhammad Saleem Jessar, Muhammad Ismail Bhutto, Safdar Ali Bhutto, Khalid Iqbal Memon, Abdul Hameed Bhurgari, Ghulam Dastgir Shahani from Larkana; Imtiaz Ali Soomro, Muhammad Iqbal Mehar from Sukkur; Syed Meeran Muhammad Shah, Fazal Qadir Memon, Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Nisar Ahmad Durrani, Muhammad Suleman Dahiri from Hyderabad; Iqbal Qasar from Badin; Abdul Razzaq Mahar from Ghotki; Ahmad Nawaz Pechuho from Jacobabad; Muhammad Murad Chachar from Kashmore; Riazat Seehar from Jamshoro; Muneer Ahmad Khuwar from Kamber-Shahdadkot; Salahuddin Panhwar from Mirpurkhas and Sathi Ishaqe from Karachi.Currently, there are only 12 judges working in the Sindh High Court against the strength of 40 posts.
