Chelsea ready to pay £30m for Wayne Rooney

Chelsea are ready to make a second bid to sign Wayne Rooney.Stamford Bridge manager Jose Mourinho remains determined to make the Manchester United striker his main summer signing and is prepared to pay up to £30million to secure the deal.

Chelsea submitted a firm offer last week, revealed exclusively by Sportsmail, but it was rejected by  Old Trafford. United turned down £23m in cash plus £2.5m in additional payments and insisted Rooney, 27, is not for sale.Chelsea are happy to match Rooney’s bumper £240,000-a-week salary at United and they will also hand him a five-year contract — if he can force his way out of the Barclays Premier League champions.

Unsettled Rooney is training at United’s Carrington training base after returning early from the club’s  pre-season tour with a grade one hamstring injury. United manager David Moyes insists Rooney, who has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, is not for sale. But he may struggle to keep the player as Mourinho is determined to land him, and Rooney is desperate to push the move through. – DailyMail
