ISLAMABAD, Sept. 7 (APP) – Najia Khan and Asia Butar of Pakistan won bronze medals in the week long 6th Korean Open Taekwondo Championship that concluded in Korea on Tuesday.
A five member squad left for Korea led by Javed Karim (Army), Naveed Khan (WAPDA), Syed Adil Shah (Army) and two females taekwondoists, Najia Khan and Asia Butar of the Pakistan Army to chip in the event.
The team was accompanied by Secretary, PTF, Wasim Ahmed, Coach Wasim Shahzad and International referee Murtaza Hassan.
An official of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF), Hanif said that hard training sessions bore fruits as both female players performed well in the championship.
“The team was selected on merit and that is why we got fine results,” he expressed.
“We prepared keeping every aspect in mind to overcome our weaknesses and also the prayers of our nation have contributed to our success,” Hanif said.”We hope that Taekwondo will gain its rightful place amongst the rapidly emerging sports of the country.”
“We are likely to participate in another championship commencing over here after the September 7. But if somehow we couldn’t contestit than we will depart Korea after the event’s closing ceremony,” he said.
“I believe that on our return nation would be happy with our performance,” the team official said.
