Rangers officials on Wednesday claimed to have recovered weapons from a vehicle of a Sindh Assembly member belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party on Wednesday. Rangers’ officials said they conducted a targeted raid on a tip-off at the office of PPP lawmaker Javed Nagori situated in Nayabad area of Lyari and recovered weapons from his vehicle.
Nagori said the weapons recovered from his car were licensed and claimed he had provided Rangers its documentation.” According to Nagori,three sub machineguns were recovered from his car, adding two of them owned by his police security guards and one was issued to his close relative. He said his vehicle ‘Vigo’, bearing government registration number was parked at his office when Rangers carried out a raid, adding the policemen whose weapons were kept in his vehicle were also present on the spot, but asleep. Rangers took away weapons and documents with them and said they would return the arms after verification from the NADRA.
The Rangers officials further said that some parts of G-3 rifle and ammunitions were also recovered. The arrest would also be made if these weapons found illegal in the verification,” said Rangers official on the condition of anonymity. Targeted raids by Rangers against criminals are going on in different parts of the city including Taiser Town, Allah Dad Goth, Musharraf Colony, Baldia Town, Agra Taj Colony, Frontier Colony, Civic Centre, Hingorabad, Rabia City, Surjani, Janjal Goth, Gulzar Colony, Bilal Colony, Mehran Town and Landhi areas. Snap checking was also carried out in Lea Market areas on Wednesday.
According to Rangers spokesperson, during the aforementioned actions, 15 hardened criminals including Lyari gang war elements and criminals affiliated with political and banned outfits, involved in heinous crimes were arrested, adding that weapons including sub machineguns, rifles and mixed ammunitions were also recovered. Separately, police detained around 13 suspects during separate targeted raids in different parts of the city. A notorious gangster of Lyari, Asif alias Asif Chohto was arrested during a targeted raid in Jackson locality of Keamari. Around eight suspects were taken into custody from Mehmoodabad locality. Two alleged drug peddlers were also apprehended during a targeted raid in Afghan Basti on Super Highway while two alleged vehicles’ lifters were nabbed during a raid in Manghopir. One dozen motorcycles and a car stolen and from different parts of the city were also seized.Dailytimes
