Polio virus has been confirmed in another child in Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the number of polio cases reported in the country so far this year has reached 237.
The Polio Virology Laboratory at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the case, sources in the Health Department said. Seven-month-old Attiqur Rehman, son of Rahat Sher of Chapari in Khyber Agency, could not be administered drops because of the ban the Taliban had imposed on the polio-eradication campaign in June 2012.
The highest number of 153 cases has been reported in Fata followed by 48 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23 in Sindh, 10 in Balochistan and three in Punjab. A source said that every year polio cases in the country were increasing. Around 58 cases were reported in 2012, 93 in 2013 and 237 this year. -dawn
