Governor announces to set up diabetes research centre

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad KhanKARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Sunday announced establishing diabetes research centre at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and hoped it would help Pakistan sharing the international research efforts on this disease.

He made this announcement while talking to foreign delegates of three-day International Conference on Diabetes who called on him at Governor’s House. Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Dr Masood Hameed accompanied the delegates. Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed, Secretary Health Hashim Raza Zaidi and Prof Dr Zaman Shaikh were also present.

President-elect International Diabetes Federation Sir Michael Hirst, who led the delegation, exchanged views with the governor on research and treatment of the diabetes. The delegates urged for creating awareness among people living in far-flung areas of country. The governor informed the delegates about introduction of telemedicine in the country and said the entire world had to join hands for combating this diabetes. ppi
