President asks AJK PM, cabinet to work for welfare of people
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday asked the new cabinet headed by AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed to gear themselves for the welfare of people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).He said this during his meeting with a delegation comprising President (designate) AJK Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, former AJK Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, Speaker AJK Legislative Assembly Sardar Ghulam Sadiq, Senior Minister Chaudhry M Yasin and other members of AJK cabinet at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President congratulated the new cabinet members for assuming new responsibilities and hoped that they would work with full devotion for the welfare and uplift of the people of AJK.Discussing the ongoing developmental projects in AJK, the President asked about the progress on development projects and assured the delegation that the federal government would provide all possible assistance to the AJK government in its effort to bring about qualitative socio-economic change in the lives of the people.
Various projects in AJK including recently inaugurated Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College at Mirpur, compensation to the Mangla Dam affectees, construction of dry port in Mirpur and establishment of Science and Technology University in Mirpur came under discussion during the meeting.The President said that the government gave special attention to the development of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and completion of various ongoing developmental projects were among the foremost priorities of the government.The President urged for removing all bottlenecks and hurdles, if any, in the way of ongoing development projects aimed at the welfare and uplift of the people of AJK and called upon early completion of these projects.The delegation thanked the President for his keen interest in the development projects in AJK and uplift of its people. – APP
