LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday emphasized the need for creating conducive political environment which would accelerate the pace of socio-economic development in the country. During a meeting with the Punjab Govenor Sardar Latif Khosa at the Governor House, the Prime Minister Gilani called upon the parliamentarians to address genuine problems of the masses as people look towards their elected representatives for redressal of their grievances.
Governor Punjab briefed the Prime Minister on the prevailing political as well as law and order situation in the province. Interior Minister Rehman Malik was also present on the occasion.Gilani said that functions and jurisdictions of all state institutions have been categorically defined in the constitution.Discharge of duties responsibally by state institutions will create an environment that would be instrumental in economic development, Gilani stressed.
He said that development activities in the country would generate economic opportunities for the masses.The Interior Minister, on the occasion, apprised the Prime Minister of his meeting with his Indian counterpart on the sidelines of SAARC conference in Bhutan and briefed on the situation in Karachi as well as the measures adopted to control law and order situation in the provincial metropolis. – APP
