MQM, PML-N stage first show of joint opposition

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday staged the first show as the joint opposition in parliament when they jointly submitted a requisition for the National Assembly’s session to discuss a range of issues, particularly the raging violence in Karachi.The two parties, which entered a political marriage a few days ago and have a combined strength of 118 members, submitted the requisition under Article 54(3) of the constitution. The document was singed by 92 members of the PML-N and 11 MNAs of the MQM.PML-N’s chief whip in the NA, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, along with MNAs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Malik Abrar Ahmed and MQM’s Abdul Qadir Khanzada, SA Iqbal Qadri, Sufyan Yousaf submitted the application.

The two parties told journalists that the requisition was submitted to discuss the brewing law and order situation in Karachi and the failure of police and other law enforcement agencies to protect innocent citizens.In recent times, the PML-N had put the onus on the MQM for the deteriorating security situation in Karachi along with the Pakistan People’s Party and Awami National Party. – Dailytimes
