Qaim says govt hospitals to be handed over to private sector

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the government would support private sector to run hospitals and clinics belonging to the government.Addressing First Congress on Dental Education & Research here on Friday, he said that the government would establish hospitals and hand them over to private sector so as to provide proper healthcare facilities to ailing humanity and needy patients.Qaim said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its government were deeply interested to raise the standard of health education and would attain better results by providing maximum facilities in higher education.He maintained that the government had fixed priority to provide maximum facilities in various sectors, particularly the health and education sectors, and had launched many programmes.Qaim said rural people lacked the health facilities but the present government had made 90 percent basic health units (BHUs) functional.He said there is 51 percent population of ladies in Pakistan, while male population is 49 percent and a day would come when ladies would occupy main seats in the education and health sectors.

He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, before her assassination, had given party manifesto to the nation, which emphasised 5-E programmes pertaining to education, environment, employment, energy and empowerment of poor, particularly the women.Earlier, Congress President Prof Mehmood Haider said at present 785 students were getting education in dentistry, and out of 32 dental colleges, 12 colleges were in Sindh province.He further said that about 1,000 delegates were attending the Congress while about 100 speakers would speak on various issues and topics during deliberations.The chief minister also gave away souvenirs to Vice Chancellor Dow Medical University Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro Prof Naushad Shaikh, Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University Prof Anwar Aijaz Shaikh, Prof Mehmood Haider and Prof Yasmeen Saleem while Prof Mehmood Haider presented shield of Congress to the chief minister – Dailytimes
