Ten Rescued From London Tower Block Fire

Ten people have been rescued and a man is in a critical condition after a fire engulfed part of a high rise building in southwest London. Emergency workers also evacuated around 150 residents from the block in Southfields, London Fire Brigade said.More than 40 firefighters were called to the 15-storey Andrew Reed House in Linstead Way, after the blaze broke out on the ninth floor at around 12.30am, a LFB spokeswoman said.Fire crews rescued five people using the stairs and four people from the tenth floor with a turntable ladder within minutes of arriving.

Scotland Yard later confirmed that a man thought to be in his 40s was rescued and is in a critical condition in hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.”Police were called at 12.51am by London Ambulance Service to reports of a fire on the ninth floor of a block of flats,” a Met spokesman said.The building in Wandsworth borough is located off West Hill, close by Tibbet’s Corner and Putney Heath.The police spokesman added that the fire was not linked to the recent disorder in the capital.More than 27 fire vehicles, including eight engines, were scrambled to the scene of the blaze following a call from a member of the public. – Skynews
