A strong earthquake struck off the waters of Alaska late Thursday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning for the area..The U.S. Geological Survey says a 7.3 magnitude quake was detected near the Aleutian Islands in the Pacific Ocean, about 172 kilometers east of the fishing village of Atka. The USGS detected the quake at a depth of 40 kilometers.
