Air force jets crash during practice in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: Two fighter jets have collided and crashed while practicing for an exhibition marking Sri Lanka’s air force’s 60th anniversary.Air force spokesman Grp. Capt. Andrew Wijesuriya says the two Israeli-built Kfir jets crashed Tuesday morning in the western district of Gampaha.He says personnel have been sent to the crash site but no details are immediately available.Kfir jets were widely used by the air force during Sri Lanka’s civil war with Tamil Tiger rebels who fought for an independent state for ethnic minority Tamils.Government troops crushed the rebels in May 2009, ending a decades-long civil war that killed an estimated 80,000-100,000 people – Arabnews
