Delta flight makes emergency landing in Florida

MIAMI: A Delta Air Lines flight suffered engine failure over Florida and made an emergency landing on Sunday, with no injuries to the 125 passengers and crew on board, authorities said.Delta spokesman Anthony Black said Delta Flight 1846, a Boeing 737-800 with 119 passengers and six crew on board bound for Minneapolis, suffered engine failure shortly after taking off from Fort Lauderdale at 7:30 a.m. local time on Sunday.”They were on take off when the captain received indicator warning of possible damage to one of its engines,” Black said.”As a precautionary measure he shut the engine down and elected to return back to the Fort Lauderdale airport, where the aircraft landed without incident,” he added.Broward County, Florida Aviation Department spokesman Allan Siegel said all the passengers were taken back to the gate while the aircraft was inspected by aircraft and fire rescue officials, he said.Deputies from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office subsequently recovered several pieces of what appeared to be parts from the damaged engine from an area surrounding the airport, Siegel said. The passengers were transferred to another 737-800 aircraft and were en route to Minneapolis, Black said. The replacement service was not among flights into and out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport that were canceled on Sunday due to severe winter weather, he added.”The flight will land as scheduled and will not be impacted by that storm,” Black said – Yahoonews
