Jessie J scores UK number one single with Price Tag

BBC Sound of 2011 winner Jessie J has claimed the first chart-topping single of her career with Price Tag.The singer went straight into number one with her release, just weeks after her debut Do It Like A Dude charted at number two.The Essex act was comfortably ahead of new entrant Enrique Iglesias, whose latest song Tonight landed at five.In the album chart, Adele saw off a challenge from Chase and Status to remain in pole position with 21.Her first record, 19, held steady at number four, just behind Bruno Mars, while her single Rolling In The Deep is in fourth place.A new collection containing songs by Eva Cassidy, who died in 1996, was another debut entry in the top 10, going in at number six.Mars remained at two in the singles rundown with Grenade, while last week’s number one by Kesha fell to third spot.Jessie J is due to collect the Critics’ Choice prize at the Brit Awards on 15 February, given to an artist deemed most likely to make a significant breakthrough in 2011.Earlier this week, the star revealed that the release of her debut album had been brought forward by a month to 28 February.Her chart-topping single is the first to benefit from record label Universal’s policy to release songs at the same time they begin to receive radio airplay.Jessie J’s first release, Do It Like A Dude, remains inside the top 10 at number seven – BBC
